EDITOR’S DIARY: STYLE SUBCULTURES

Over the past couple of weeks I have been observing and analysing Jamaican style. I can now categorise dress sense here in the same way I can pin-point style sub-cultures on the streets of London.  Here are my categories:

RAGGA – The ragga cults always integrate Rastafarian colours into their outfits.

UPTOWN – The style philosophy of the townies is sophisticated and elegant.

AFRO-CENTRIC - The Afro-centric cults can be spotted a mile off adorned with colourful ethnic jewellery and African head  cloth’s.

HOTT GALS – The Hot Gals are not shy! Not ones to be seen under-dressed, they go all out, even if its over the top.

CUTE + CLASSY -This clan keeps it sweet and simple to suit the warm climate.

DANCEHALL – There are two kinds in this cult. One kind takes influences from dancehall fashion…the others are true dancehall queens!

CREATIVE – The creative kind are called creative because they wear their outrageous compositions with confidence.
